Davits - installing

On our 1978 Islander Freeport with the two blower vents on the stern there is limited options for davit mounting.

Sure we could remove them and possibly redo the whole anchor windlass system, but why? It all works good as is. So our best option is to work around the stern placement of these and other items and still be able to mount a outboard motor and wind vane and engine hoist. It took some thought and research on davit manufactures.

Stopped by ME and picked up some fasteners for the davits. I did not realize I got hex head screws until I got home.

Then it was mark up the holes to be drilled for the port side davit and drill the holes.

They do not drain water as well so for this I would like flat head screws.

That done it came to me that we will need to remove the davits from the bottom brackets to install the brackets into the backing plates. That is easier with both Debbie and I.

Also we moved the cam cleats to a better location.

So I just screwed in the fasteners temperately till we get the flat head screws and Debbie is available.
Also the lazarett we need to get in for installing the backing plate has the stern windlass in it. That will be tough to get in there with it and it may have to be temporality removed but we are hoping not. We may be able to tunnel under the cockpit from the refer area, worth a try.
