Jib leach work

We wanted to remove the old brown sunbrella cover from the jib. It is used to protect the jib from the sun when it is furled.

As you can see it is frayed

We dropped the jib primarily to do the jib sail work.

It did a great job and is now all eaten up by the sun. It is flapping in the wind as we sail. The threads are hanging off it and it is too thin to repair. We had removed the sunbrella from the foot but could not reach the leach.

Later Debbie got a seat and some head phones

After we dropped the jib Debbie set about removing the brown sunbrella. It was a long job so she put in the head phones and I could hear here humming the songs as I lay in bed napping. She left the stitching but removed the rest. No sense in making the job way hard.

The jib is looking good

While removing the sumbrella it was discovered the leach line was coming out of the leach in sever spots.

To fix this we purchased three roles of sail tape from Sailing Supply and Debbie cut it length wise as she applied it. Debbie used about a role and three quarters and that is cut in half so that ids a lot of tape more like three rolls! This whole process took a couple hours but the jib came out really nice.

Looking really good.
If the tape does not hold up (stay stuck on) then we may sew it on by putting the sewing machine up at the bow and running the jib through it. Not wanting to do that as were are going to buy a new jib in the coming year.
