Davits - installing

We remove the davits from the bottom mounts so we can install the bottom mounts onto the stern for good. We got off the port one but the starboard one has nuts on the screws so it will take a trip into the lazarett by Debbie to remove them and do the install all at the same time.

Screw will not go through backing plate at that angle

The backing plates are not drilled well for us. The bottom screw even if short would be hard to set into place with the backing plate the way they are drilled.

We will re-drill the backing plate to accept the screw easier. When Debbie is in the lazarett it is extremely confining and not comfortable. There is a limited amount of working time before she must come out for her body to straighten out and for her to get some air. So things must be ready to go together when the time comes. After all she needs to install the backing plate as I set the bracket in place with the three screw protruding and they must fit correcly. There is not the time to re-fit the plate by drilling on it or the stern and doing more fitting. Then she must add three lock washers and then three nuts onto the screws. Then hold the nuts with a wrench as I screw them in tight. Then apply some 3M 4000 to each nut so it is streaked down and does not come loose. So no time for moussing around with the fit.
On the outside I will apply 3M 4000 to the stern where the mount is going and to the head of each screw s there will be no water penetration into the hull.
These are 3" screws. We will pick up a few shorter ones in case we can use them instead epically on the bottom of the mount. We did a pre-measure and decide the 3" world work well but hay could be we could get by with shorter which is easier!
There is one fender washer that is in the way of the backing plate on each side. It is part of the stern rail mounting screws. The backing plate needs to lay on top of the fender washer. It will not hurt anything but complicates things a bit on screw angle and length.
