We are currently cruising our Islander Freeport 36 sailboat in Mexico. We have been extensively documenting our outfitting for this adventure. Also, what works and what is not of value.
Remote test for stern spotlight 2024
We finished off our spotlight remote wiring and some other wiring items. One item was a wire I cut by mistake and other wiring clean up and labeling. Tonight Debbie walked to the other side of the fairway in our Marina and tried the remote.
New white SEEKR Sirocco II™ Fan by Caframo ordered 2024
Ordered another SEEKR Sirocco II™ Fan by Caframo. This one is white to replace the one in the Bora fan head. The fan in the head has been repaired once but now it is making an odor.
December 2024 ⛵ Chip & Debbie 💑 curently in Marina de La Paz, La Paz BCS (Baja), Mexico
A fan in the head making an odor is no surprise you say? Well it is an electrical type of oder so we will replace it. A friend is bringing it down from the states when they return.
Purchased from Amazon.
Starlink cable routing and stern paint 2024
Debbie in her (not so) favorite spot - this time deep in the starboard lazerett. We cut our Starlink cable and are relocating it to where it should be, going through the cam clam.
Spotlight remote and wiring clean up 2024
Debbie trying to be in the lazerett! We are doing some wiring cleanup and installing a new remote for our spotlight. Our old remote was under the center stern solar panel where it sat for the last 10 years or so before it stopped working.
Stern steps removed and hinge rebuilt 2024
The pvc pipe that holds the metal pipe is going to be replaced along with the metal pipe.
West Systems will be used to hold it all together and then a two part paint to make it look good.
Repaired outhual sheave in boom 2024
Debbie and I fixed the sheaves on our outhaul line that goes into the end of the boom. The line had gotten stuck between the sheave and the boom, slipping out of the sheave. It was really jammed in there.
New SEEKR Sirocco II™ Fan by Caframo, salon 2024
Selecting placement of new fan.
This is one of the three new SEEKR Sirocco II™ Fans by Caframo we are installing. This is replacing the three Bora fans made by the same company. The Bora fans have the on/off and speed switch in the middle and the switch breaks.
New scupper paint match etc 2024
We helped remove our anchor locker hatch up on our forward deck and Chava took it fof a paint match. Then he came back with the hatch cover and a better match for the paint. He repainted the scupper area with the Imeron two part paint and it does match nicely.
New stateroom Caframo SEEKR Sirocco II™ 12v fan installed 2024
We finished off the stateroom Caframo fan replacement project and the new Caframo Sirocco fan and it works good however the project was more involved than we thought. No surprise as it is a boat project!
Hull has been cleaned and waxed 2024
It was way over time to have our hull cleaned and waxed. In fact, it has been some years. Our boat is 46 years old and the gelcoat is worn thin but still looks OK. We may get the stern painted and new lettering for the name and home port.
Stern spotlight refurbished, painted, move etc 2024
While he was here he saw Debbie sanding our stern LED spotlight. Chava said "let me do that with the two part paint - it will last longer, and free". We have painted it a couple of times over the years. This time we are relocating it so I do not have to move it to put on the Summer boat cover.
New dive, bottom cleaning purchased 2024
Picked up a new pair of fins for cleaning the bottom of the boat. They are small but all I need. They could also do double duty for snorkling. We got them at Ferre-mar where they sell a lot of fishing gear.
Helm seat and deck varnish done 2024
This summer we had our port and starboard inside grab rails varnished along with new varnish on our deck and our helm seat. Chava did a nice job. I had done the deck about 10 years ago and it was needing a redo and same with the helm seat.
Stern steps removal for repair 2024
Chava and his helper removed our stern steps to repair/replace the hinge. This is a big job and one we have wanted to do, or in this case have done for a long time.
Stateroom luverd doors out for varnishing 2024
Our last major varnishing job that has never been done. These are our privacy teak shutters that close off our pullman berth.

This Bag will come in handy for my pickleball gear. Can carry this as à Sling Bag or backpack.
AKM Scuba Diving Weight harness purchased - 2024
I decided it was time for a new dive belt. I clean the bottom while at anchor and my belt tends to slip around my waist when I am cleaning the bottom. It is a pain.

We purchased 3 yards of Phifertex Plus white shade fabric, white PremioBond Text 90 (V-93) white UV bonded polyester https://www.sailrite.com/, 4 oz (1350 yards) and 10 each DOT fasteners buttons and sockets. This is in order to redo the shade on our side windows in the 90% shade - right now the shade is only 70% with some 90% pieces we add in on the port side temporarily.

Sperry Men's Billfish 3-Eye Boat Shoe purchased 2024
I did need something to wear while we are underway on our Islander Freeport 36' sailboat. I would go like this; I would walk up and raise the anchor in my Crocks because they would get dirty from the washing down of the anchor etc.
Update:
We sent these back as I need a 13 winde which they do not make I belive. I did like the Sperry Sport shoe also but Sam problem. I just want so deck shoes for sailing while not on the hook or at the dock.

Crocs Unisex-Adult Classic Clogs purchased 2024
These I like for working around the boat. They protect my feet from stays and my heals from the stays and other object. Easy on/off and they float. They can get dirty\wet raising the anchor and clean up easily. I have been ripping the strap off and the buttons that hold it on so they do not scratch up the deck while i am working on my knees or catch on things without the strap attached.

Nerw davit winch purchased for backup - 2024
While cruising up in the Sea of Cortez this past season we had trouble with our davit winch. The remote sensor we found had developed some loose wiring in it. We repaired it by reserved the wires and it started working again. In the interim we had tried using alligator clips on the motor studs and connected to the batteries for on and off, raising and lowering.
Ordered a Breeze Aero 11′6″ Native Spectrum Inflatable Paddle Board - 2024
We brought this down to Mexico from the US around the beginning of the year. It has been serving me just fine since then. Part of the reason for changing to an inflatable board was the safety factor.
Smart Plug installation - 2024
We started our "Smart Plug" installation. Also we installed a USB charger where our cigarette lighter plug was underneath the old 30-amp shore power plug. Debbie did all the lazarette work and all the wire connections and the Smart Plug we got installed fine.
New teak outboard motor mount varnished, installed - 2024
Our teak outboard motor mount was cracked on the back side. Also, it was beat up after about 10 years of use. We opted for a new one and had Chava varnish it up while we were out cruising the Sea of Cortez. It came out nice and we mounted it. We have a T-setup on our stern for a mounting option. Our outboard is sitting on it already! Purchased from Amazon.
Samsung Galaxy S22+ 256GB smartphone purchased - 2024
The smartphone we currently have is not seeing our Starlink router so we can make WiFi calls or VoIp calls. That was a problem when we were out cruising for a couple months in the Sea of Cortez. We had no cell service and wanted to use the internet for calls, but it was not happening.
Los Gatos: Anchored on our way South - 2024
There are two other boats here, a big cat and a trimaran.
The temperature has been in the mid 80s all day and high 70s during the evening. Quite nice! A lot cooler than Aqua Verde. The Anchorage has been a bit rolly and we are all behind the reef on the south side.
Aqua Verde -A nice guitar practice session - 2024
I had to sit on the side deck of our Islander Freeport 36 ft sail boat to try to stay cool with the little breeze we had in 91 deg F temperature. Songs included "Needle and the Damage Done", "Ring of Fire", "Blowin' in the Wind" and "Pamela Brown". Debbie is my groupie (and photographer)!
