New lifting harness for our Achilles LSI-310E dinghy - 2019

These are the parts for our Achilles LSI-310E lifting harness.

We have had some problems with bringing our Achilles LSI-310E dinghy up and down on the Kato Marine Island Davits when our stern anchor is deployed. So we decided to make a harness so we could lift the dinghy up alongside the boat. We would use a halyard like the whisker pole halyard or main halyard then use the Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass rope drum to pull the dinghy up but we needed a harness. We looked around our spare parts and came up with what we needed - two snap shackles will do and a clip will work. Also we had a stainless steel ring and all we needed was some lifeline or Samson Amsteel Blue Rope, 1/8".

Well, Zaragoza Chandlery in Puerto Vallarta only had blue so of course we got blue. We purchased three 6' lengths (easier for them to cut it) and it was not many pesos. This line can lift 25000 pounds. At most we need to lift 250 pounds.
I am wet from washing the boat. Debbie and I did a nice job washing s\v Elegant'sea as we are going sailing in a couple pf days. Anyway, I am holding up the stainless steel ring and the three lines you can see (barely) going to the bow and stern. A few bowlines tied it together. It will need some adjustment maybe but quick and easy and almost free😀

Here is the bow attachment point.

The other possibility for raising and lowering the dinghy would be to drop a bunch of stern anchor rode into the water and then drop the dinghy. That way the rode is not stretched out and in the way. Problem with this is the boat starts to swing and can pull up the slack or get close to other boats. Of course the Ocean Kayak Malibu Two is always a possibility but when we are anchored in Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo it is a bit far to kayak to get to town so the dinghy is nicer.
