Placing the thermostats in the bulkhead was not as hard as we
had thought. Debbie did a great job of placement. She had them in such a place
as to miss the bracing for the upper shelf. Not too low so a tool would fit
under the first line of the lower one and not too far aft because then the hall
bulkhead above the refer\Freezer would have interfered more or lots.
Ugly hugh! How could you do this to this lovely boat!
The trick was not to
make a mistake. The big mistake would be making the hole too big or or too long
or a divot in one like missing with the drill. Then to cover the sin we would
have to resort to some molding of cover plate co cover the sin(s). Not that I
have not used molding before J
but was trying to avoid it this time. Also the thermostats cam with cover
plates we just do not care for them.
Hand hack saw
To help I only used
the drill to get started. That’s the only power tool that was used. We do have
good control over the drill but you never know.
Then a hand hack saw
was used. That way only small cuts were made and it was easier to stay within
the template.
On the right (forward) side of the thermostat the edge of
the hole is a lilt rough. This will go away with a little varnish and the thermostat is just placed in there not firmly
installed.
Now it was time for the second thermostat hole to get cut
out. Same drill (pun) as the first one.
Dam that's ugly!
Worse
This was the first time I noticed the two thermostats were
different! We have not decided in which order they will mount yet.
The simple one with the less buttons is for the refer, it only controls the fan.
You can see a slice of van-ear came almost off on the lower left thermostat but some wood glue and you will never notice it. It is still there just a bit loose.
The holes around the thermostats,
there are three, two small and one large will get teak plus in them.
Another job well done!
What kind of thermostats are they... Did they come with your refer or are they upgrades?
