We called Mermaid
Marine Air and asked about the scooped through hull trying to weasel out of it because we think it will slow us down. Like we are in a hurry. Sailing a house someplace but what the heck every tenth of a knot adds up.
They would only recommend a scooped through
hull so it looks like that’s what we will get. But we will need two (we have both a Mermaid Marine Air 5200 btu and 12000 btu units) and with a three-blade prop and keel cooler and this and that and? OK we will allow
more time to get there.
We will get a 3/4 scooped through hull installed when we haul out.
Note:
We used a 3\4 inch through hull and then a screen to cover it. Looks the same as the one above only we can remove the screen if need be.
We have already marked the spot.
Just trying to
do what we can to make the boat as slippery as we can. So when it is going slow,
we will think about how cool it will be in Mazatlan or wherever inside the
boat when it is 100 deg outside! We could even run the stateroom AC
when the boat is moving!?
Mermaid Marine Air also said we could put the outgoing through
hull 15' away with no problem. The closer the better but I asked for 15' and no
problem. We are thinking that the outgoing water at 6” above the water
line may make some noise. So why not have it go out behind the settee, not in
the stateroom? No scoop needed :)
