Our new Standard Horizon Matrix GX 2150 VHF radio came in and after work I wanted to play with it.
April 2012 - Currently at Marina Kona Kai Shelter Island San Diego, CA
We had scheduled a mast project for the after work day so I could only
fool with it for a hour or so. Then a dock mate wanted a favor so that took
more time. It did get the wires for the AIS attached to the radio that go to the NMEA 0183 network network inter face. That is about all I could get done. They are
secured on the radios side.
The Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter has two com ports. It is set at 4800 baud by default.
To keep things simple, as they can be I guess we left the chart plotter at the default setting. If we want to change that to 38400 baud rate we would add one more wire and do the menu setup thing.
That is so far the
only disappointment with the radio. The wires on the back for the AIS and
hailer are not detachable. This means we need to get the radio setup but cannot
route the wires unless we set the AIS up from the chart plotter first. If I was not in so much of a hurry it may have
been better to attach the wires to the NMEA 0183 network chart plotter side and then route
them to the radio. What the heck it is not that big a deal.
This is probably done for water proofing by Standard
Horizon.
We will flush mount the StandardHorizon Matrix GX 2150 VHF radio into the nav station. Then the ICOM 802 SSB will get flush mounted on top of it.
That's all the time I had, Debbie came home and it was mast work time😅
