Cockpit boards for T

We have these boards, ¼ plywood that fit between the stern lazerett and the side lazeretts.

They came with the boat and we made for the PO owner we believe. They bridge the space where the T is in the T cockpit. This makes it possible to lay down in the cockpit and do my favorite thing, nap J

We take the stern cushion and place it over the plywood.

They work great but are kind of flimsy and hard to store. This seems like it could be a job for our future son-in-law? He has cabinet making skills and could possibly come up with some ideas.

Possibly hinged (piano hinge?) or bolt slide locks? Who knows but some way to maybe get them cut in half or have them fold. A bit stronger also.
Next moth is the wedding so perhaps after that, this could be an option.
