Anchor chain rubbing on bow roller problem - 2011

July 2011 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA

The anchor chain rubs against the bow roller as it comes into the boat.
This we want to stop as we plan on getting 300’ of 3/8 galvanized chain and do not want the galvanized chain to get stripped of it’s galvanizing as it comes into the boat. We have been looking at different methods and we are thinking of using a chain hook instead of a chain stopper and adding a roller where the chain stopper is.
In a couple weeks we will start anchoring again and will test out some methods.
Chain stopper we have.
Chain hook.
The chain hook we currently have would work but having it on a pad eye would make it's attachment point stronger. Now it is attached to a roller. The problem with this theory is the chain would be on top of a roller then hooked, this will put pressure on the roller. Not sure if that would matter or not. Because of the way the boat is built there are not lots of options.
Perhaps we will need to re-think the way the chain comes in over the existing roller. It is nice as it puts the chain on the gypsy where it needs to be (recommended by Lewmar) and helps keep the big CQR from getting close to the furler.
