Stateroom door varnishing - final coat of gloss saloon side - 2011

Top of the door with run
Debbie tapped off the outer edges of the door so the gloss would not drool over to the other side of the door. Then we put the final coat of gloss varnish on the salon side of the stateroom door and it came out beautiful, EXCEPT for on big drool along the top of the door. Dam!
April 2011 - Currently at Marina Kona Kai  Shelter Island San Diego, CA

We tried to tape it off at the seams and then sand and re-varnish. Not having it. It is still visible. I was quite disappointed. Debbie had tapped the door panels off in anticipation of moving on to that area. Tic toc as we move onboard it a week and loose the garage and do I need to saw this is not the only thing going on at this time.

So after pouting for a day or so I decide to flip the door over and do what needs to be done on that side. That is to put three coats of satin on the door panels. We have now gotten two on. It was all taped off and prepped so we just need to varnish it. One more coat to go, hoping. This second coat was thick, I think the varnish needs thinning. I will thin it out a bit and apply the last coat this weekend. The second coat was drying as I was applying it. That does not leave time for it to level about and my sponge brush was sticking. Not good.

Then we will flip the door over and do the panel on that side. The re-try the final gloss coat after a prep of the whole trim are of the door.
