So we are researching hot water heaters (HWH) I have so far found that price matters and quality will last longer, heat faster and stay hot longer. That means less engine run time or generator noise, taking a shower after a night on the hook and still having hot water all cost more. And not to mention the HWH lasting longer. We need to find a HWH for a space in the engine room. While they cost more and do not give us the ability to heat the water with the wind generator they will do all the above better than the Seward HWH that we have and were thinking of getting with the duel element in it for the wind generator heating.
The last Practical Sailor reviews we in 1999 so things have probity changed a bit but maybe not. So that is no information hugh :)
There are draw backs with heating the hot water with the duel element. One is it would take a long time to heat it with a generator or 110 at the dock if needed soon for a shower. At the dock it may not matter but listing to the genset run for a long period of time because you only have half the heating element would be a big drawback.
So although it sounds cool (or hot) it has it’s draw backs.
So to the boat and more measuring and more hunting.
Here is one that may fit in our engine room space.
Isotemp water heaters have earned a solid reputation for high quality and exceptional performance. The new basic product design builds upon the experience of 15 years and tens of thousands of water heaters sold. All Isotemp water heaters are designed specifically for the tough marine environment.
