This is what the roller setup for the 3\8 Acco chain that holds down the chain to the Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass looks like. This was on the boat (not this windlass) when we purchased the boat. It worked ok with our Lewmar H3 Anchor Windlass but could have been lower.
June 2019 -We are
currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico (by Puerto Vallarta)
The idea behind the roller is to hold down the chain so it gets a good lead into the gypsy. As you can see the chain is still a little high.. We could raise the windless some but it has only about 1 1\2 inches it go be raised before the lid would not close. We decided that we would try anchoring without the roller. In Santiago, Mexico we dropped the chain down 90 feet to get out some twists. As it went down it was jumping out of the chain locker and the gypsy. As it was coming up it was slipping in the gypsy at times. The chain needed to be held down lower so more chain would be in the gypsy. It was a bit dangerous.
So...back goes the chain roller.
Only now we need to rebuild it.and make it hold the chain down lower. The holes that are shown, well the two on top, are where the old bolts went. We had to cut them off to get the old roller off. We had to also cut off the bottom ones and that of course left the old bolts in the holes.
This is the template for the new roller bracket. First I had to find places for the new holes for the bolts. Then get it down far enough so the chain does not rub against the top. After figuring out how the sides would fit and the brackets that hold the roller on would bolt on we went to the weld shop.
The material will be aluminum like the old roller.
This job is still at the weld shop...stay tuned!
