Solar panel bimini tubing started, beam to beam - 2011

August 2011 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA

Debbie and I got the stainless steel tubing all set up on the top of the bimini. It still needs to be tweaked out. One end is higher than the other possibly forward and one cross piece of tubing is a bit higher than the other.
We plan on making a mockup of the solar panel and placing it up on the tubing to get it all looking right.

Then we will mark the tubing fittings and take them to the weld shop, probably Benchmark Custom Welding to get them welded together for strength. It will save us time rather than drilling them out for bolts.
If there is any sagging with the panels up on top then we can brace the tubing with a cross strut or add some bracing to the panels which will stiffen them up. No worries now though.

One we get them all welded and re-installed we will then probably order the Air Breeze wind generator and Kyocera Solar KD-135GX 135 Watt 12 Volt Solar Electric panel.
The idea here was not to have holes in the bimini because of the solar panel mounting. Also the panels and mounting will give us a place to hang side curtains for sun protection and they will also serve to give us more shade. Never mind the electricity AMPS!
