Made up the “dashboard” for the house batteries mostly built and in place.
I still need to re-enforce the middle a bit as it can move a bit back and forth. Probably not a problem but I do not want it to vibrate and then loosen the wires like on my old Harley. The we will pain it and it will be to go for mounting the equipment. Got a some teak from the Chula Vista swap meet that I used for the end pieces and ½ inch plywood for the center piece. Could of like ¾ but did not have any. Also ¾ would have been a tight fit, would have maybe needed to remove the batteries to get it in and the local store (Dixieline only one around who sells marine plywood and only by the sheet) only caries on size at a time. Last time I bought a sheet it was about $70.00 and ½ and the time before it was ¾. So a bit of bracing will do the trick.FYI
We are using 4/0 cables because we have (not yet hooked up) a Xantrax 2000 watt charger inverter. Same Raferty got and installed in the same location. I chose the location because we will be heading south and I did not want the heat coming into the boat. It is behind the nav station and can be vented to the lazertt. Also if using the invert-er the second fan can kick in making more noise. The run to the batteries is recommended to be no more than 10’ or you start to loose efficiency. Most installs over 8’ use 4/0 wire.
I over sized it all, we have no microwave or hair dryers or anything other than an electric tooth brush and water pick :) . But it will be our home till.. so you never know.
The fuse block we have at this time is a Blue Sea Class T 400 amp fuse block that will be connected right to the battery then a 500 or so buss. Then another buss say 200 amps and the shunt (Link 2000) and etc.
Here you can see a Blue Sea Class T 400 amp fuse block mounted to the "dashboard"
Next we will turn the batteries around so the neg ground is closest to the engine.
Then we can measure for some more new cables. I have replace all the battery cables that connect each battery to each other with 4/0 and will do the ground next. Then start on the buses.
