Using Muriatic acid to flush the HVAC - 2020

This time we are using Muriatic Acid to flush the Mermaid Marine Air HVAC instead of Barnacle Buster. The Barnacle Buster is expensive here in Mexico and hard to store as it comes in gallon containers. The Muriatic acid is in a smaller container and a lot less money. Also it is easy to find here in Mexico not like Barnacle Buster. We need to get more Muriatic Acid to flush the Mermaid Marine Air HVAC 12,000 btu unit.

Maruata anchorage - 2020

We just left Maruata. We anchored behind the big rock or island. We could not get too far behind the island as there are hidden rocks. These anchorages are roadstead anchorages with little protection. We picked a weather window with 4 foot seas and little wind so we could anchor and get some sleep each night. Our Magma flopper stopper (Magma Rock N Roll Stabilizer) saves us.

Mantus bridle got twisted on SS eye in Zihua - 2020

Our Mantus Chain hook and bridle system line got turned on the stainless steel eye. How this happened we are not sure. It did come up caught up in the shackle. The 3/8" BBB Acco chain was twisted some also. After several more anchorings it is still off but not quite as much.
March 2020 - We are currently anchored in Las Hadas in Manzanillo Bay, Mexico

Outbound: Cabeza Negra Norte anchorage Inbound: Manzanillo - 2020

Outbound: Cabeza Negra - Norte anchorage Inbound: Manzanillo...no worries, beautiful day, saw and talked to s\v Fantasia on the radio along the way, and the good continues after anchoring in LasHadas, in Manzanillo!

Outbound: Cabeza Negra Inbound: Manzanillo, fall - 2020

Outbound: Cabeza Negra Norte anchorage
Inbound: Manzanillo.
Beautiful day out on the water...just enough wind to have gib and main sails up! We are pinching, hoping the wind will come around a little more.

Yesterday we were anchored at Maruata - 2020

Yesterday 3\24\2020 we were anchored at Maruata and it was quite nice. Cooled down nicely a bit later. We anchored just inside the islands (rocks) and enjoyed a good night's sleep (with flopper stopper down). No other boats and hardly any campers. The fishermen were friendly. And no cell tower, meaning no cell coverage or WiFi...great to be off the grid!!
Hauled anchor in the morning and spent a nice day at sea to Cabeza Negra - North for the night.

Anchored here in Caleta de Campos and getting ready to up anchor - 2020

Anchored here in Caleta de Campos overnight and getting ready to up anchor. When we arrived some locals swam out, climbed partway up the bridle and welcomed us. We knew the other vessel anchored here - the trimaran s/v Bonzer! We thought about going ashore but the swells are too big for a safe beach landing! Our flopper stopper gave us a good night's sleep.

Sailing out north from Isla Ixtapa (Isla Grande) in the morning - 2020

There were about 10 sailboats that left this morning. Good thing to as there is now room for the daily influx of power boats which now number 6 and counting. Tonight there may be one power boat, we will sail off ⛵ tomorrow l

Varnishing the starboard cap rail -first new coat - Zihua 2020

While anchored here in Zihuatanejo during the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival I got probably the second to last coat of varnish on the starboard cap rail. We are leaving soon to sail North so the last coat will probably be done in Bahia de Navidad.

Honda 9.9 outboard cooling hose clogged again - 2020

We are at the beach dinghy landing here in Zihuatanejo and are working on our Honda 9.9 hp outboard. We have had to fix this once before while here. The beach landing gets a lot of sand up into the cooling hose from the shorebreak.

Another coat of varnish on the helm seat chair arms - 2020

These arms have been rather hard to varnish at anchor. We are in Zihuatanejo and the anchorage is really lumpy and rolly. Anyway, the only place we really have to hang them to dry is by the stern and that is in our way of launching the dinghy and lifting it and they flop around also.

Went for a swim tto clean the anchor chain. 85.2 degree water temp - 2020

Went for a swim this morning to clean the anchor chain. Debbie is making water and said the testing tool showed the water temp is 85.2 degrees F! Yes, it was nice! The air is warm but there is a nice breeze.
A lot of boats are leaving now that Guitar Fest is over. — in Zihuatanejo, Guerrero.

Zihua Guitar Fest "Thank you volunteers of 2020 party"...fun and free pizza! - 2020

Another DaNard dinghy wheel flat!, tire trash! - 2020

This tire is coming apart.  It has seen too much salt water. The DaNard Dingy Wheels have been in use for our 8 years of cruising. I think maybe we should replace the tires and wheels after 5 years as preventive maintenance.

Trip to Zihua's La Ropa beach for two Guitar Fest concerts in one day! - 2020

We stopped at "El Pirata" for lunch and some Yahtzee!
Jose Luis Cobo Lunchtime Concert at Sotavento Beach Club with Jose Luis Cobo and Eric McFadden at Playa La Ropa in Zihuatanejo, Mexico.

A donation to the Zihua FD got us a T-shirt - 2020

Yes, I purchased a "T" shirt from the local volunteer Zihuatanejo Fire Department and that helped with their fundraising.  It is also a cool shirt!
The Zihua FD sold them at the  Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival opening night.

Zihua foot wash at dinghy beach landing - 2020

It can be the little things in life that make it sooo much better.  And in this category falls the foot wash at the dinghy landing. Debbie is cleaning the sand from her feet in the wash pan (dish pan) that Matteo, pictured here, along with Alfonso and Jesus keep clean and full of water.

First night of Zihua Guitar Fest - 2020

Debbie working the cash box at the Zihuatanejo International Guitar Festival
We worked at the merchandising desk. Our shift was the early one from 4:30 PM to 8:00 PM. We also purchased some goodies😊

Tivas and Crocs went to cobbler shop in Zihua - 2020

These shoes and sandals are not inexpensive yet they do not hold up under our life style it seems. The Teve sandals came unglued as we were getting out of a Combi (bus/van) so we went to the local market and got the knock off Crocs

Port cap rail finished, for now - 2020

This is the last coat for now on the port caprail. Look at the blog for more details. .We started with Z Spar Flagship Varnish  - 2015 Gloss and switched  over to Epifanes clear varnish. More on caprail varnish.

Zihua anchorage boat report - March 2020

Over 40 sail boats in anchorage and also some big power boats.  March 2020 in Zihua. A few more sail boats came in today. There are still a few over at Isla Ixtapa (Isla Grande). Guitar Fest will start in a few days. We think a lot of these boats will head to the canal or the puddle Jump. Fun to see every one on the beach!

Chain cleaning here in Zihuatanejo- 2020

We are in Zihua and it is March 2020. I clean the chain
every 5 - 7 days and about 35 feet needs cleaning.
If we up anchor I clean it anyway. The part in the water and about 15 feet of the part in the sand. The rest of the 100 foot of chain stays good. We swing around and it rubs in the sand and keeps clean. We have 3\8 BBB chain...Acco chain. This is the tropics!
