Solar hot water diagnosis with the Blue Sky Energy inc Solar Boost 3024iL DUO - 2013

Early January 2013
Our solar hot water diagnosis is that we are just not getting the summer sun. Yes it is in the low 80's now but the sun is low in the sky. The water temperature is in the upper 70's. We do get warm water from our hot water heater at night but not hot.

Between all our electrical needs like refer etc and the sun being low in the sky and the larger batteries we will not see hot water probably until the spring.

The Blue Sky Energy inc Solar Boost 3024iL DUO solar controller starts sending power to the hot water heater (dump load) when the batteries reach Acceptance or Float which is usually late morning and matters if we use the Spectra Watermaker 200T Deluxe water maker, ICOM802 SSB or whatever. So that leaves plenty of time for hot water just not enough high sun for it yet we think.

From Blue Sky support:
"If the 3024-DUO is set for "Max Power" mode, power will be diverted when the 3024 is in Acceptance or Float. The DUO-Option manual addendum BSE p/n 430-0027 describes how it works. Confirm that you have "Max Power" mode selected in the 3024-DUO (DIP# 4 set to ON). The CBM4070 is only required if the dump load can draw more than 20 amps."

  1. Sounds like you two are having your share of problems. I don't know if this would be any help or not to you, but Tom of Eagle in La Paz got a job of sorts working for a water maker company in the U.S. Tom is representing the company in Baja installing and trouble shooting the company's water makers. I can't remember the name of the company and I don't have Tom's email address he's using now, but I've been able to post to his blog and get a reply from him that way. Tom and Jeanne's blog is http://www.sailblogs.com/member/bigleftturn/

Tom might be able to offer some kind of help, you never know.
