Repainting bilge under our Beta 38hp - 2020.

Debbie is cleaning up the bilge area under our Beta 38 hp engine. We will, or rather, she will use some bilge paint to give it a new coat. We like to be able to see if there is any trouble in the engine room at a glance and a clean bilge really helps this.
May 2020 - We are in Marina Puerto de la Navidad (BarraMarina) in Bahia de Navidad, Mexico

Environmentally friendly Simple Green cleaning solution
cleans up the bilge before the paint is put down.
Before the work begins.
To the side and behind the water muffler are the areas that need the fresh paint the most.
Starboard rear side needs some love.
This is the Port side of the engine that REALLY needs it!
As a side project, Debbie used the red enamel spray paint for areas of the engine that were cleaned up from the rust that started to develop.  For this "tray" off the engine mount, Debbie sprayed some of the red paint onto a sponge brush then brushed it on that area.  That worked like a charm!

A side job was thrown in to spray paint some areas on the engine.  This means Debbie had to "suit up" so the over-spray wouldn't get all over her.
 All covered....and still smiling 😀
Her (roller blade) knee pads really help save those knees!

Water pump/thermostat area had a little rust so I cleaned it up then used some Rust-Oleum paint (the grey area) on the area.

Debbie's method to spray paint the engine - a tube made from a plastic bag with both ends cut off.
The bag helped keep the over-spray contained.
Wa-La!
Next, on to the bilge...

Debbie encased the bottom of the engine and some hoses below it with this brown paper.  She ran it under the bottom and up the other side.
Debbie was "selected" for this job because of her smaller hands and more nimble body!  Here she is trying to get to the area under the Racor filters.
Some areas just could not be reached with the roller or brush so...Debbie attached the roller to a broom stick.  This worked perfectly for the back of the bilge that needed it so badly.

We had purchased the paint supplies at Home Depot
last fall before we left for the cruising season.
The bilge is starting to look nice and clean!!
