We wired up our Garmin GPSMAP 942 chartplotter - 2019

Garmin GPSMAP 942 chart plotter needed to have a new power chord wired on. There is a difference between the old Garmin GPSMAP 740 chartplotter and the new Garmin GPSMAP 942 chartplotter.

The cable had 8 wires to connect. I started off by cutting off the wrong cable. That meant reading the schematic and then putting those four wires inside that cable back together.
First i tried to borrow some soldering equipment but that did not work as it seems the solder tips were bad. So we went to Steren here in Puerto Vallarta. We picked up the necessary equipment and I had to tin the Weller iron tip.

November 2019 - Currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico (by Puerto Vallarta
Tinning the new Weller iron tip.
Stripping the cable. There are 10 wires in it.
Two are spares so I cut them off. So now to connect up eight wires.
Razor blade to cut the cable to strip it off.
This "additional hands" tool helped a lot and it was not expensive.
We purchased some bronze wool from SYS chandlery here in Paradise Village Marina.
 Doing some heat shrinking.

Still working on the mount for it but you get the idea.
We still need to finish the mount and tuck away the wiring
but it is working now and sees the radar, autopilot, wind etc. All is good!
