Almost done with the port caprail prep - 2019

Almost done with the prep. In fact, today we finished off the last bit. Tomorrow morning at daybreak, we will wash the cap rail with Te-Ka and when the caprail dries, we will put on the first coat of 50\50 varnish which was sanded with the #80 grit sandpaper. No more bubbling. Also, varnish breathes where Cetol does not so that should help.

May 2019 - We are currently in the marina at Grand Isla Navidad Resort in (Bahia de Navidad) , Mexico

Got the heat gun working and scraping off Sikkens Cetol.
Laying down on the job 😃
Removing caulking.
While we are working on the caprail we are upgrading the spring line and mid-ship cleats, chocks and rub strake. Our current rub strake is 12" long by 1" wide with 3 screw holes. We are going to change it to an 18" long by 1" wide with 4 screw holes.
Here I am plugging the two screw holes in the caprail from the old chock.
Pounding in the teak plug.
Cutting it off with a chisel.
Done, now to sand the caprail.
We removed the old white caulking we had put in this seam.
Cleaning up the area for blue tape and then new black caulking like the original.
The orbital sander doing the job!
Fresh from Debbie laying in the black caulking - SIS 440 Teak Deck Caulking
All done - now to sand again.
