Originally we purchased this Genius for our VW Jetta. But we will not be using it for that purpose anymore so it will get s\v Elegant'sea duty.
It started out as just getting the Genius charger out of a locker and mounted into the area where we will use it.. Then one thing lead to another, as you know how it goes and I installed it.
February 2019 - We are
currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico (by Puerto Vallarta)
Here you see the old Battery Tender we installed back in 2010.
This we are going to remove and upgrade. We also want to move it
so we could get the battery shelf out easier in case of emergency.
We have an AGM starting battery and we never use the charger.
However, in a "just in case" scenario, we would like it there & available.
I mounted it on the port side because I want to be able to get the shelf out,
that the battery is sitting on, in a hurry so we can have good
access to the PSS Shaft Seal or other shaft related issues.
Of course it is not just and easy😕
The Battery Tender was used first on our Harley Davidson
FLH bike and then went onto the boat.
When we last did a new starting battery replacement we moved the Battery Tender here, kind of out of the way.
The area we want quick access to which I think we have.
We could make a few improvements to that access though.
At the time we put the shelf in we cut it in half and can remove it. We thought we would store other items here but decided we did not need to and so we can cut the shelf smaller to make it easier to remove. This we will do next bottom job when we do the PSS Shaft Seal Maintenance.
We will cut the shelf along the red line or thereabouts. Also trim the edges a bit also.
Now the wiring is mostly run to the battery terminals. It is time to connect the Genius charger battery terminal ends to the battery. The positive terminal is bigger than the negative terminal.Neitherr one of the Genius charger terminal ends will fit...they are too small. I got out the Dremel Tool and cut out the ends. They fit but there was not much meat left. So I decided to put new terminal ends on. I reminded myself that the ends were different sizes and to not put the wrong side on the ends. Of course I put the small size on the positive end which needed to be the large size.😀 Luckly we had another so I corrected the issue and it made the wire shorter. There is a 30 amp fuse there but we can still check it or replace it with the battery box cover on...that was close😓😁
They are correct but it did not leave much room on the positive side
for the fuse to stick out of the battery box top.
All done here.
Here we are with the Genius charger all wired up
and ready to get plugged in if we need it.
The Battery Tender we installed back in 2010 is now out
and we are looking good!
And of course with the hatches back on you would never know I did a thing!
