We took a 12V BP Marinco Trolling motor plug we purchased at Downwind Marine and attached
it to the West Marine 12V Dual Outlet Receptacle (6867857). It took some wrestling and some serious
cutting of the wire insulation but we did it.
The Marinco Trolling motor Plug and Receptacle can handle 30 AMPs. We use this for our Air pump for the dingy, kayak, fenders etc.
Note:
After trying to use this in Mexico we decided it was not needed, Because it is all wired up we kept the Marinco Trolling motor Plug and Receptacle but got rid of the electric air pump and even the blow up kayak. A foot pump is fine for the fenders and Achilles LSI-310E dinghy.
We also wired up the 12V Marinco Trolling motor receptacle with #10 wires right to the batteries, fused in the cockpit.
We put a Marinco Trolling motor plug on the air pump with a 20' chord because
the air pump can draw more than 15 amps. The
12V Dual Outlet Receptacles can only handle 15 amps. We want to be able to blow up the dingy from the dock or the fore deck etc while plugged into the cockpit.
But we also want to use this for other for items that draw
less like the two portable fans that we are setting up for the cockpit and the
12v portable anchor light we would like to use some times in the cockpit and
other items. They plug into a 12V outlet receptacle not the Marinco Trolling
motor receptacle.
So to make this happen we needed to convert the Marinco
Trolling motor receptacle to a 12V Outlet Receptacle.
We did this by taking the West marine 12V Dual Outlet
Receptacle and removing the 12v plug and
adding the Marinco Trolling motor 12v plug to it. Now we can plug this into the
Marinco Trolling motor receptacle and have two 12v Outlets for use with the
other items. Of course we could daisy chain off this by plugging in two more to
these giving us three to use at once.
Confused?😕
