Debbie and I tapped up the top eye brow so that we could caulk
the eye brow.
At various times we have been working on removing all the old
caulking from the eye brows on anticipation of varnishing them.
The method was using
a putty knife and regular folding knife, a razor blade, a dental pick and any
other thing that might work to remove the old caulking. The old caulking was
black in color and cracked and some was missing. We decide to restore the eye
brows to their original state as they are in very good condition.
The taping we did one
day and then skipped a day (took the day off from boat work) and then caulked
them up using brown “Life Caulk”.
First we cleaned the area
with Acetone using a razor blade inside a towel.
I spread out some caulking and then using a putty knife kept working it in the crevice. After it was worked in I would smooth it out using a caulking tool.
Stuffing it
Had to cut the tip off the old caulking as it hardened, this helped make more of a mess
Debbie was behind me
removing the tape and fixing any screw ups and cleaning up with “Life Caulk
cleaner”. This was satisfying because it is the last time this needs to be done
and it is another project completed.
It still needs a finial clean up but it really came out quite nicely.
We chose the brown (teak color) as it blends in nicely with the teak eyebrow and when all varnished up will leave a nice clean white line where the gel coat meets the caulking and eye brow.
Yes we still need to do the lower eye brow but one at a
time. The lower one is cleaned of the original caulking but needs taping, and prepping.
This will be done in a few weeks.
