We are going to install the Mermaid Marine Air 5,200 btu AC\heat (HVAC) unit in the hanging locker. My wife uses this to hang her clothes in.
September 2012 - Currently At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA
There were four batteries
sitting in the hanging locker when we bought the boat. These were house
batteries.
HVAC sitting on shelf facing to bow
Facing the stateroom - most likely install position
This unit can run off batteries but would moist likely be run off the Honda EU 2000i genset
The shelf that holds the batteries is still there. We moved the
batteries as they were hard to get at. We have toyed at putting the Mermaid Marine Air 5,200 btu
ac\heat unit in the salon and have it cool the stateroom. It would be nice
however we are finding it hard to imagine serving the unit if needed in the
space it would be installed.
We have a Mermaid Marine Air 12,000 btu unit for the salon area.
This lead us to re-thinking the aft hanging
locker.
Debbie removed the six or so screws holding the shelf in and we found the PO had drilled lots of holes for the wet cell battery ventilation. The ones into the bilge will need to be filled in, possibly just foaming them up. The others we may possibly use instead of putting in a supply air grill for the ac.
We have a sent Mermaid Marine Air a question on this to their support.
What I got back from Mermaid was that a 10x10 grill is normal for this 5,200 ac\heat unit.
We will make a template of the holes and map them out on a piece of cardboard to see if they can make up a 10x10 grill.

The holes we would use for the HVAC.
There is a couple wires coming in through the hole now that will get moved
Also the PO was nice enough
to move the dord hose over (he had the battery charger in this closet also) so
there is a readymade hole for the air out duck.
At least we are on the move with the HVAC!
