VHF - back and forth

Well we or I ordered the wrong color radio. I guess I clacked instead of clicked! At any rate we will ship it back to defender and they will send out a black one.

The good news is we got the wiring schematic from the manual so we can start wiring up the Garmin chart plotter to the nav station for the VHF\AIS function.
Bad new is the new radio will not be shipped out until Thursday and we have top pay UPS shipping to and from. Thats why I lioke to call in and place an order instead of using the un-trusty mouse.

New Bodum coffee press - purchased

We purchased a new coffee press.
Kitchen Couture had a nice sale and with free shipping it was a deal. Aren't they all :)

Our old Bodum coffee press is stainless steel and glass.

We removed the glass to clean it and let it dry.

It is still rusting.
It seems a bit dangerous to remove the glass as each time it may break. We do not need a nasty cut for the sake of cleaning a coffee press. We looked for plastic ones but did not like what we found. This will work with tea also.

Garmin 18" HD RJ45 cable extension to chart plotter

We measured the distance needed to the binical from the radar RJ-45 cable and decide that 20 feet of cable would do easily.
We just placed the order for the coupler and cable at Amazon.com.

Also a Garmin coupler is needed. Then we will need to cut one end of and snake it to the chart plotter up the binical 1” SS binical guard.

Canvas cover field repair by Debbie

Debbie did a field repair on the hatch cover on the starboard side over the settee.

The Sunbrella cover was blowing off (tethered on so it stayed on the boat) because it was loose. The bungee had gotten week.
Debbie cut the old bungee tighter and re-fastened it. Then hand sewed up the cover.
Yes it works great again thank you Debbie and thank you for making all these covers in the first place!

Garmin NMEA 2000 backbone cable end replacements - 2012

We are getting ready to setup the the Garmin 740 Chart Plotter.
Called Garmin support again:

That means we need to snake the wires up to the plotter through the binnacle guard (1" SS tubing).

Oops, Wind Sensor lightning arrest-er

OK after talking to Garmin support about the chart plotter (they are real nice) I found out that the two pieces I thought we useless are needed for the wind sensor. One is a in –line lightning arrester and the other is an in-line terminator saving a "T" connector for other uses :) Guess I should have read the instructions for the wind sensor. It looked so simple though and it works the way we have it connected, just not after a lightning strike :) and who needs to save money by not using the "T" connector provide! The gray one is the lightning arrest-er.
