We rounded Cabo Corrientes (Cape
of Currents) with this impeller!. Several of the tabs are near breaking right off. The broken off tabs of course would have probably clogged up the heat exchanger.
How long was it like this coming back up North we do not know but if must have been like this coming around Cabo Corrientes as we were motoring in the morning as there was no wind.
We inspect and if need be, replace our impeller every season and they are never in this bad of shape.
Next season we will probably inspect the impeller before heading North.
If the impeller went out rounding Cabo Corrientes it could be a problem. This last time we just got around before the seas picked up and this would have been a problem trying to clean out the heat exchanger on a hot engine while bouncing around a lumpy seaway. The wind was on our nose. Later when the wind picked up we could have tacked for a while then set course for La Cruz as that would have been a point of sail later in the day.
We were very fortunate! We will investigate what could have caused this...more to be revealed!
