Stern shower project started! - 2012

The stern shower (Whale Twist Deck Shower Mixer) is on its way to getting installed. Our first piece of this project was installed!
June 2012 - Marina Kona Kai Shelter Island San Diego, CA

We snaked a ½ inch hose from the stern lazarette to under the galley sink where it will be connected to a valve and then to the water line there. Another ½ inch hose will get snaked as soon as we purchase some more hose :). We did not use a whole box of hose. We had used some on another project before and did not have enough left for another run.

We think for us the Whale Twist Deck Shower Mixer is the product for us. Because of limited space and no need for a door to open and have in the space we like this one. The hot and cold model it will be.
First we placed the box of ½ inch hose by the stern lazarett. The starboard side as out port side has the anchor windlass in it.
Note:
Later we replaced this sower as it was not working for us. We had the hot\cold version and there was not enough water pressure to get the water out the nozzle at any speed..
Port lazarett.
Had to use a wire coat hanger that Debbie found to snake the hose with some duck tape.
Under the galley drawers snaked but not pulled tight,no loop when done.

Our snake is back in storage, which we will get. Not a good place for it.
It is getting hard to find these wire coat hangers, good to keep one in the tool chest.

  • White hose is bilge blower hose.
  • Large hose next to new shower hose is emergency bilge pump hose.
  • Two smaller hoses are new diesel tank hoses to engine and back.
  • Large black hose is new 2" engine exhort hose.
  • Cut off hose is old refer drain hose.
  • Small black hose is temporary propane hose to galley stove.
  • Wire is propane detector wire to sensor under stove. It will get staked to the propane hose and not be left laying around like it is :) oops.
Snaked into the area in front of the sink.
The black box is another propane detector.
The white hose is a bilge blower hose that needs to go into the hole seen for it.
The through hull is for the old engine driven refrigeration.
What used to be in this space, the 20 year old or so engine driven refrigeration.
What used to be in this space, where new stern shower hose is coming into space.
Shows the space now with new stern shower hose.

The basket contains some safety stuff and some project stuff.
  •   Sea strainer and March Pump for Mermaid AC 12000 BTU unit. To be installed here and use this through hull.
  • 4/0 battery cable to be set up with jump start switch to positive batter buss at the house bank in case the starting battery failed.
 In the works 😁

We then simply pulled the hose through the lazarett and over to the refer. Then down through the old engine 1 ½ inch exhaust hose hole and into the area under the galley drawers. From here the hose needed to be snaked to the engine room space.

We could have chosen to run the hose under the cabinet under the stove  to under the storage are by the sink and then into the sink area. That would have taken up space with two hoses from the pan storage.
Also this run would likely require drilling more holes.
Under the sink.
Stern shower sump hose has duct tape on end yet. This will get plumbed to a on\off valve yet to be purchased and into the sink faucet water line. These lines also have on\off valves just not shown.

From the engine room storage are in front of the sink (1978 Freeport, later models do not have this space access) we ran it to under the sink.
The hard part is done, the next hose will just follow this one.
