Today I did some prep under our nav station. We have already done the hard part which was varnish the louvered doors.
January 2025 ⛵ Chip & Debbie 💑 curently in Marina de La Paz, La Paz BCS (Baja), Mexico
Now it was time to do the trim arround the louvered doors in gloss and the flat areas around them in satin. I have finished washing and sanding the area with TSP. I removed the louvered doors and the seat at the helm station. The seat is oak and has a crack in it.
Chava came by to do some varnishing on the outside of the boat which we are having him do this year. I have always done it but we are supporting the local economy by hiring it out. He is just about finished with the outside teak. He has done the grab rails, eyebrows and the caprail. All with three coats. Anyway, I gave Chava the oak nav station seat and he will fix the crack with West Systems and varnish it.
The previous owner (PO) had mounted a Loran navigation instrument which we took out so I am filling those small holes with Life Caulk teak color. They are too small to use teak plugs. Tomorrow I will fill the holes with Life Caulk. I also need to make two teak boards for covering a couple holes by the PO. This is coming along. The area is not very noticeable but still it should be done, so it is getting done. An option of the Islander Freport 36 ft was for teak and oak. The oak being the flat tops of things like the top of the nav station and the tops of the hanging lockers and shelf arround the bed. Also all the fiddles etc.
Meanwhile it is blowing a cold Norther at 19 knots with gusts to 23, 27, 29 etc. Out in the anchorage and through the marina.
