We took a trip to Industrial Metal Supply Co and did some eye candy shopping. Most people probably would not find that fun but we do. We were looking for a piece of stainless-steel plate to mount our Vespa Marine smartAIS XB 8000 AIS on. It is now a Garmin AIS system.

It had stopped sending AIS data over the NEMA 2000 network to our Garmin chart plotter. The app still worked fine and MOB, and anchor alarm worked but no data to the chart plotter. We sent it back and got a replacement that we will need to reinstall when we get back to the boat. We had it installed on top of the ICOM M-802 SSB main body which is under the Nav station. Just in case there was interference between the two, the stainless-steel plate should eliminate that. It will be mounted on some wood that in mounted on top of the SSB. However, when we removed the AIS it rattled inside so it seems something came loose. Anyway, the SS plate was so light they just gave it to us for free - they sell things by the pound.
