As you can see the darn Frigatebird bird landed on top of our mast in spite of our best efforts to date.
The boat did not turn as fast as the wind shifted so there was a spot between the bird spikes and the Garmin wind vane, which the Frigatebird grabbed.
He landed between the Garmin wind vane and the bird spikes.
He did not land on top of the Garmin wind vane as we put a bird spike on it.
So when he left, he left the Garmin wind vane.
We tried several times to get the bird to leave but he was stubborn and it became obvious we were going to do some damage to the instruments\light etc on top of the mast by trying.
He likes it up there!
So far since then (beginning of January 2016) we have not had a similar problem that we know of. We have now been at anchor for 3 months in various places.
