We washed the chain locker then scrapped it and then painted it. It was brown. You can see there is extra fiberglass where the chain sits. Also the bottom of the chain locker has a hole for drainage. It is a lot bigger than I thought. I had thought it was maybe as big as one of the small deck scuppers. It is much larger. Bigger than one of the large scuppers.
3\31\2010 San Diego, CA Got our new bimini installed. Am not sure about the stretch of the fabric. We got a Weblon vinyl fabric with white on top side and sand on under side. It looks as if it may collect water. We will hose test it this weekend. There is a Catalina 34’ boat in out next slip with a vinyl bimini. We will water test theirs also for them to see if there is a difference J. It takes a bit of getting us too. We got a 10x20 window also.
This weekend we got our bimini frame installed (well Monday). The handsome guy with the hat on is me. The other guy (not as handsome as me) is Todd from San Diego Canvas. We are shooting the fat over the wind generator pole and outboard motor lift scenario. Neat day or so should see the bimini on!
Because we will be living on our boat for a long time to come we decide on a Xantrex 2000 watt charger\inverter. We may never need all that but we may grow into it. We may sail to Costa Rica and then eventually up to San Francisco. Or farther south etc.
So we have purchased a Xantrex Freedom modified sin wave charger\inverter. Because of space considerations we chose a unite that had both instead of separate unites.
4/19/10 I added a new curtsey light in the salon, well replaced an old one with the new LED red ones we had purchased. There are places for seven. We have six in place, five working (ran out of but connectors). We are getting there. I used a hole saw to make a bigger hole for one under the steps in the companion way. Used a hole saw in a hole saw, worked good.
We were going to do this and the bimini project ourselves but decide we had just too much to do to take it on. We are having San Diego Canvas do it. We had a full back hand rail made and two side and rails.
We have added a Caframo Bora 3 speed an in the head and have removed the old light that was by the door as you come in. The reason we got started on this is because the previous owner (PO) stored the spinnaker pole in the boat.
We have added two sconce Led lights in the head and have removed the old light that was by the door as you come in. The reason we got started on this is because the previous owner (PO) stored the spinnaker pole in the boat. To do this he cut holes in the head bulkhead and the settee bulkhead. So we used a piece of starboard to cover the hole in the head and put a fan there. The we added these two lights. They are real nice looking and make the head look even bigger. These are LED lights and have two bulbs each.
Because we are in a 35’ slip that is just about wide enough (we use ac couple flat fenders) we decide a boat hook was need to pole out. You can see it mounted on the stanchions. Got to look through the power cord etc. It is a Shroud and we have a bunch of attachments for it. We also have another Shroud pole we use for a broom.
Our insurance company required that we install a Galvanic Isolator as part of our survey. So rater than argue about it we complied. Also the Xantrex Freedome 2000 inverter\charger wanted one installed as part of their grounding requirements. We installed it in the starbord lazerett.
We replaced the florescent light in the vanity in the head with a LED light. It will do both bright white and red. With the curtsey lights on in the boat this light when switched to red allows you to walk through the boat say at watch at night and go to the head without losing your night vision.
New dorade (cowl) vent paint
An easy and quick project with a big bang. It was simply a matter of washing them real good and removing old paint. I think we used acetone. We then bought some red Rust-Oleum paint from Home Depot and put a couple coats on. They have held up pretty well so far. It’
s been at least six months.
