Flushing the Mermaid Marine HVAC(s) with acid - 2018

Flushing the HVAC with acid.
Here in Paradise Village Marina this should be done
twice a year because of the warm water, growth and estuary.

June 2018- Currently in Paradise Village Marina in Banderas Bay Mexico

Run the acid water mix through the a/c for about 25 min.
  1. Then run the clean water through for about 5 min.
  2. Use 2 percent Muriatico acid (1 liter)
  3. Put the acid in about 12 liters of water.
  4. Use a 500 gpm bilge pump in the bucket.
  5. Connect two hoses (garden hose ok) one to the "in" (also connected to the pump) of the condenser and one from the "out". Both go into the bucket.
  6. Flush for a minute to check for leaks. No leaks then add acid.
  7. The A/C (HVAC) should be blowing about 17 deg cooler than the air around it.
  8. So if the cabin is 85 deg the A/C should blowing about 68 deg.
  9. The A/C will blow warmer if the heat is not transferred out of the system properly.
Car battery powering bilge pump - this was Luis' setup.
The house batteries could be used.
Here is the amount of acid we used for 12 litres of water (or 3.17 gallons)..
Luis' equipment/system!
Ours is running about 9.8 amps which is good.
Our HVAC should not be running at say 10.4 amps.
Mermaid running amps for this unit is 9,4.
Running amperage Cool = 9.4 E/H = 17.5 R/C = 11.4
Add approximately one amp for the standard seawater pumps.  Start up amperage is calculated by running amperage multiplied by 1.8.
9.4 x 1.8 =16.9 + 1 = 17.9 amps start up?
This says it should run at 9 amps.

Editor's note:  The work that Chip and Luis performed flushing the system helped produce cooler air.  It did not, however, fix the blown breaker at re-start...Luis thinks it is a faulty breaker so we will work on replacing that...fingers crossed!
