We installed the Hatch glass - 2010

This is the last hatch to do! We have four all the same size. This one is over the bed.

Propane Locker gets a double bottom - 2010

The Propane box will need to fit in the lazarette.
The bottles will need to be removed for filling so the the placement of the propane box is an issue.

Shower grate varnishing four coats top - 2010

The shower grate is coming along. These pics show it with four coats on top and two on the bottom.
I need to sand it some because the varnish is a bit uneven.

Front Windows

Got a quote back from Diamond Sea Glaze

The quote.

$900.00 each for the front windows.

Now that is for the car glass type of windows with powder coated frames.
ouch!

Fishing gear

We put some effort into creating a fishing box.

Got a hook remover

We got a fish cleaning knife

Needle nose pliers

A bat for knocking them out

Nether my wife and I drink alcohol so we chose to make a mess with the bad rather than have tequila on board so we can squirt them in the gills. Might be a nicer way to go for the fish but the bat is quick also.

A couple of fish lures

A trolling line with a shock cord and weight.

I got an old empty line real and put the trolling line in it.

Got some gloves for fix handling

Got a net for picking the fish out of the water (it is a Shurhold)

Got a fish hook for the same purpose (it is a Shurhold)

Got a box and put it together

Now to catch dinner!

Blue Sea Systems Blade fuses -purchased - going with blade fuses - 2010

Just bought a Blue Sea Systems blade fuse holder fuse block.

Prppane Locker

The propane locker is coming along slowly. I work on it when other things are waiting for parts etc. Just bought some more fasteners for putting it together. Am using wood glue and SS screws for the inside corner pieces and will be making a panel inside to hold the regulator.

I cut out a top from a piece of ½ inch marine plywood. We did not use marine plywood on the other parts as it is going to be all encased with fiberglass and we wanted to use ¼ ply wood for weight. Keeping the box light is the goal. I just had only Marine plywood around.

The piece you see in the picture is for the bottom. The bottom has wood bracing so the price of ¼ will make it easier to fiberglass over the bottom.

Power Washer

When we first looked at the boat before we bought it the decks were dirty looking, I mean real dirty. We asked the broker about them and he said the owner would not let them power wash the decks or boat.

The broker had varnished the cap rail and some other outside teak and the owner was real mad about that. He did not want anything sanded or varnished.

He liked it all natural and was against power washing.

Next time we looked at the boat we brought a scrub brush and some boat soap and cleaned a small section of the deck to see if the grim would come off. It did and the non-skid was in great shape.

After we bought the boat and got it home we tried sever different methods of cleaning the boat but all failed when it came to the decks.

We bought a power washer and it came clean. We have since used it a couple times on the boat and it was definitely worth it. I am not a big fan of the PW and tend to stay back with it so as not to damage the fiber glass. But sometimes you just gotta go for it!

Like I said before the boat was not used much so everything is in good shape. The decks were not used much for the "Anchoring dance". That’s a new song I am learning how to play on the guitar and partially self-written!

The 1,400 PSI washer

Teak blocks of wood

The teak blocks of wood for the cleats are almost finished being varnished. Soon we will be buying new SS cleats. Now we could have painted the old ones and made life a little simpler as the holes would line up. The paint would rub off and then look not so good. We could have them powder coated but the have a $50.00 min charge and they would not meat it. Plus they would still be black. Black is OK but seeing as we will probably see these every day forever I am thinking some nice SS on the deck would be nice. So we will spend a little more and work a bit more on the holes for fitting but they will look nice forever on.

Used accumulator tank

Saturday at the Marine Swap Meet in Chula Vista I saw an Accumulator tank and thought well what the hell. It was $5.00 so it would be worth the gamble. Besides it is shiny and nice looking :). I asked the girl if it worked when they removed it and she said she did not know anything about it. I bought it none the less. Five bucks what the heck. Ours is going or is gone out. Of course then I had buyer’s remorse as why would I buy a used one when we are going cruising? Any way now researching it I may have gotten a steal on it. Kind like the macerator pump from Vacu Flush we got at the swap meet for $20.00 that goes for over $300.00.
If it can be rebuilt or works the I can be fine with it.

My question is how do they get these things. The macerator pump had cut off wires and cut off hoses. Now who would steal a used shit pump for a boat and then sell it for only $20.00. I can just imagine the fluids coming out of the hoses when they were cut and the smell etc.

Any way I found out that this Accumulator tank is sold by Surflow the same manufacture that makes our new 5.3 gal a min fresh water pump! And it comes as aq kit. I did not even know the sold it! At the time we bought our pump our accumulator tank was working so we did not need one.

So now to find out if the bladder is any good in the tank and how much air to pump in.

Our old tank is still instaleed and kind working but kind not.

Dow Blue Board

I have called AMS again about the Dow Blue Board insulation. They said for such a small amount it takes a while for a return phone call on pricing etc. I am trying to order some.

We did find some in National City, some 2” so maybe I will need to go chasing for what I can get.

Refer supplies gotten!

Picked up the refer built parts today for the fiber glassing.

We got ½ gallon of epoxy and the hardener and a box of 2” brushes. We got couple measuring and mixing tubs and some stirrers. We also got few yards of 60 oz. fiberglass cloth and darn if I didn’t forget the epoxy putty for the holes.

Looks like another trip. I had my mouth flapping with the store man about our plans and his. He was going to build the boat from scratch as he has the tools and skills from working in the industry. Any way forgot the stuff after taking too much.

Emergency Battery switch

Well we bought the emergency shut off switch for the positive side of the battery bank.

This goes between the battery bank and the fuse. It hopefully never need to be used but just in case we will put in.

Homemade varnishing bench in garage - 2010

Here is a picture of our at home varnishing bench👍. It was the plywood cut for the shower grate but we are now using it to replace the teak grate while we varnish it. So the work bench is now an old teak cutting board we picked up at the marine swap meet last year.  October

Varnished shower grate - 2010

October 2010 - At Marina Cortez Harbor Island, San Diego, CA

I had to spend some time washing the shower grate with TSP and liquid Ajax. Then I sanded it to remove a lot of the marks, dings and spots that have accumulated over the thirty years. This took a couple few hours at least.
