Before putting on a second coat we did a good sanding with #220 to try to even out the varnish, make it more glassy looking. Then we did the same on the third coat. The forth or fifth coat we did just little sanding on some runs and used a scratch pad. Forget how many coats we did, four or five. Any way like I have said before it is a cruising boat, house boat, work boat not a Yacht Club boat. It looks real fine.
